Gastric Bypass Surgery (Gastric Bypass)

What is Gastric Bypass Surgery? How To?

It is one of the oldest obesity and metabolic surgeries. It has long been considered the gold standard in obesity surgery. Unlike gastric sleeve surgery, the stomach is not removed and some of the intestines are disabled. It is an obesity surgery that both restricts eating and disrupts absorption.

Technique: The surgery can be performed laparoscopically or roboticly under general anesthesia. First, the stomach is divided into 2 parts and a stomach pouch with a volume of 15-30 ml is left connected to the esophagus. The remaining stomach part remains dysfunctional. The small intestine is separated 75 cm ahead, the lower end is sewn to the stomach, and the upper end is sewn 100-150 cm away from the lower end. Thus, the food taken first passes into the small stomach created and from there to the small intestine. Digestive enzymes meet the food 100-150 cm away. This situation causes malabsorption.
